Authority & Power

The words authority and power are often associated with Jesus during His earthly ministry. As you read the gospels, you cannot be help see the authority of Jesus as He taught the Scripture and the power of Jesus as He worked miracle after miracle. In Mark 1:21-45, we encounter these realities. Jesus had taught the people in the synagogue and their response was that of astonishment because Jesus taught them "as one having authority" (verse 22). Jesus also demonstrated His power when approached by a man possessed with an unclean spirit. Jesus spoke to the unclean spirit to come out of the man. "The unclean spirit convulsed him, shouted with a loud voice, and came out of him" (verse 26).

When the Church is the Church in today's world, the authority and power will also be seen today. His authority is seen as His Word, the gospel, is proclaimed. His power is seen as He transforms people's lives into His likeness. The Church is the instrument of Christ to be His hands, His feet, and His voice in the world today. Are you seeing the authority and power of Jesus? Is the Church family that you belong to seeing the authority and power of Jesus?
