Immediately follow Jesus!

For those who know me the best, you know that I love the passages of Scripture that focus on the calling of the first disciples and their immediate response to leave everything and follow Jesus. Such is the case in today's reading from Matthew 4:21-25. This particular passage states that Jesus called James and John. They were brothers, the sons of Zebedee, and fishermen. Yet, when Jesus called out for them to follow Him this is the response recorded in Matthew 4:22 = "Immediately they left the boat and their father and followed Him."

This immediate response of surrender is the same response we see from Andrew & Peter, the same response we see from Matthew, the tax collector, and the same response that Jesus expects from all He calls to follow Him. Has this been your response? Have you responded with the willingness to leave everything (comforts, likes, money, possessions, whatever He says) in order to follow Him?

It is my prayer that today Jesus find each of us in total surrender to His calling for our lives. Exalting Jesus, Loving Others, Reaching the World! Who is with me?
