Jesus gives Rest

One of the most comforting verses of Scripture for everyday life is found in Matthew 11:28 where Jesus says, "Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

We must see the first truth of this verse - we are to come to Him. Too often, we begin to pray about an issue then we go and try to solve the problem or handle the issue in our own way, instead of waiting on Him. Part of coming to Him is to understand that we must wait on Him. But remember no matter what we are going through He is always there for us. Through the power and work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers today, Jesus is with us.

Rest, in this and other verses, is often misunderstood. Some take it to mean that we have stopped from all activity. Some take it to mean the "rest" of heaven once this earthly life is over. However, rest in this verse seems to indicate that peace and security that Jesus gives. We may not know how or when He will take care of the situation but we know that He will. We can "rest" because He is in control.

Today, go to Jesus - tell Him all - enjoy the rest that He gives - pray for the following:
(1) Lake O' the Pines = Pine Harbor
(2) State = Florida
(3) Nation = Iceland
(4) Continent = Africa
