A Person of Integrity

One of the greatest examples of integrity is found in the life of Joseph. Joseph, who had been sold into slavery by his own brothers, quickly gained the respect of his Egyptian master. Genesis 39 tells us that everything that Joseph did was successful because the LORD was with him. Because of his master's trust in him, Joseph was placed in full charge of the Egyptian's household.

Joseph proved his integrity when the Egyptian's wife tried to seduce him. In fact, she tried day after day. Notice this emphasis from Scripture, "Although she spoke to Joseph day after day, he refused to go to bed with her" (Genesis 39:10). When most men would have given in to such treatment, Joseph held to his faith in God and his responsibility to his earthly master. Even after he wrongly arrested and thrown into prison for allegedly trying to rape the Egyptian's wife, Joseph remained true to his integrity.

The Scripture applauds his integrity with these words: "The LORD was with Joseph and extended kindness to him. He granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden . . . the LORD was with him, and the LORD made everything that he did successful" (Genesis 29:21-23). Joseph was a man that lived for God. He was a man of integrity.

In a world where integrity seems to be lacking, may we the people of God stand strong with integrity. Will you join me? Will you be a person of integrity?
